HAWAII BICYCLE TOUR
The Big Island.
ITINERARY
DAY 1
Friday November 12th: Arrive to Kona, bike or taxi to hotel, assemble bikes.
DAY 2
Cycle to Captain Cook, small town. (25km.) In the afternoon you can hike, bike or shuttle to a nice snorkelling beach. The cycle to Captain Cook is short but has some climbing ( 2 hour ride).
DAY 3
Cycle to Naalehu (72km)Can
take a side route and visit a coffee plantation and National Historic
Park. The route is up and down over lava flows. An optional side trip
to South Point is recommended for those who want a few extra km.
DAY 4
Cycle to Volcano.(68 km).
Long maybe hot, uphill after a lovely gentle start. Climb 4000 ft, but
grade is continuous and rarely steep. The views are worth the climb. Staying
at a B&B on the edge of Volcano National Park.
DAY 5
Rest day in Volcano National Park. Hike or bike around
the crater.
DAY 6
Cycle to Hilo. Short day, mostly downhill. (35
or 70 km).
DAY 7
Hilo. Visit to Rainbow Falls, cycle to the beach and snorkel,
or there is a nice 70 or 110 km out
and back day ride option. Hilo is a small city, lots of good restaurant
options.
DAY 8
Cycle to Honokaa. (73km)
with lots of ups and downs and potential winds (usually at your back)
Optional tour of Botanical Gardens on route.
DAY 9
Cycle to Hawi (65 or 90
km). Nice road through cattle country followed by a good
climb over Kohala Mountain. In the 90km option is included a cycle to
the Polou Valley Look Out.
DAY 10
Cycle to Kona (97
km). Flat fast ride. This is the Cycle Iron Man
route. Pack or return bikes.
DAY 11
Monday November 22nd: You are on your
own. Fly home or could spend a few days extra relaxing in Hawaii.

COST: $1395 (based on double occupancy), or $1695 for single occupancy.
There is no GST charged on trips outside Canada.
