HAWAII BICYCLE TOUR
The Big Island.

ITINERARY

DAY 1

Nov 10th: Arrive in Kona, taxi to hotel, assemble bikes, pre-tour meeting by the pool.

DAY 2

Cycle to Captain Cook, small town. (25km.) In the afternoon you can hike, bike or shuttle to a nice snorkeling beach. The ride to Captain Cook is short but has some climbing (2 hour ride).

DAY 3
Cycle to Pahala. (98 km) The first part of the ride will be on a very low traffic road and if you want you could visit a coffee plantation. . The route is up and down over lava flows in parts and breathtaking beach veiws near the end. This is our longest day, we’ll cook dinner for you. An optional side trip to South Point is recommended for those who want a few extra km.

DAY 4
Cycle to Volcano.(40 km). Long maybe hot uphill. Climb 4,000 ft, but grade is continuous and rarely steep. The views are worth the climb. Staying at a B&B on the edge of Volcano National Park.

DAY 5
Rest day in Volcano. Hike or bike in the park (very beautiful ride) around the crater and beyond.

DAY 6
Cycle to Hilo.We'll visit the outlaw town of Pahoa and the Lava Tree Park, mostly downhill. (70 km or 45 option).

DAY 7
Hilo. We'll shuttle people to one of the most beautiful routes to cycle in Hawaii, forests, surfing beaches, papaya groves and warm springs and almost no traffic. Spend the evening in Hilo; nice little city, lots of good restaurant options.

DAY 8
Cycle to Honokaa. (73km) Up and down ride with potential winds (usually and hopefully at your back). Optional side trip to a very interesting Botanical Garden.

DAY 9
Cycle to Hawi. (65 or 90 km). Nice road through cattle country followed by a good climb over Kohala Mountain. The 90km option includes to ride to the Pololu Valley Look Out, fantastic view.

DAY 10
Cycle back to Kona. (97 km). Flat fast ride. This is the cycling part of the Iron Man competition.

DAY 11
Nov 20th: You are on your own. Fly home or could spend a few days extra relaxing in beautiful Hawaii.
