ITINERARY

DAY 1: ----.
Arrival day. Stay at a hotel nearby Nice airport. A good day to assemble bikes or go to pick up your rental bike, go to the beach, relax and rest from your travels. Shuttle available from Nice airport subject to a schedule.

DAY 2: Nice to St. Vallier de Thiey. / 62 k. 1215 m gain.
St. Vallier de Thiey (pop 3,214 / altitude 730 m). Today's schedule includes a visit to Grasse, the “Perfume Capital of the world” and a visit to the interesting town of Vence, “City of Art”, with its medieval architecture, art galleries, cafes etc. We will finish our ride in St. Vallier de Thiey, first stop along the famous Route Napoleon.

DAY 3: St. Vallier de Thiey to Comps-sur-Artuby. / 52 k. 1055 m gain.
Comps-sur-Artuby (pop 272 / altitude 900 m), today we will ride the Plateau de Caussols, climb up the Col de la Sine and we will end up right at eastern side of the Gorges du Verdon, a great location for us to start enjoying the Parc Naturel du Verdon.

DAY 4: Comps-sur-Artuby to Digne Les Bains. / 82 k. 1110 m gain.
Digne les Bains (pop 17, 969 / altitude 608 m), is one of the main lavender regions of Provence, situated beside the fast flowing Bleone River; it is an historic village surrounded with mountains & hot springs and it has a nice main street where we will find plenty of choices where to dine and relax from today's ride.

DAY 5: Digne Les Bains to Sisteron. /
60 k. 1035 m gain.
Sisteron (pop 7,749 / altitude 482 m). On the famous Route de Napoleon and at the edge of the Durance River; Sisteron is an impressive fortified town with beautiful streets and rich architecture, it is still protected by parts of the 14th-century walls and it has an imposing 13th-to-17th-century citadel that is a true historic jewel of Haute-Provence.

DAY 6: Sisteron

DAY 7: Sisteron to Gréoux-les-Bains. / 83 k. 790 m gain.
Gréoux-les-Bains (pop 1,495 / altitude 400 m), is an enchanting little town with nice cafes, restaurants, pedestrian streets etc. It is an ancient Roman town with thermal baths built in the 1st. century AD and a Templar's restored castle. Our ride will takes us by the beautiful towns of Forcalquier, St. Etienne and Manosque among others.

DAY 8: Gréoux-les-Bains to Moustiers Ste. Marie. / 89 k. 1280 m gain.
Moustiers (pop 726 / altitude 631 m), We will continue our ride in the Parc Naturel du Verdon and enjoy the beauty around Lac de Sainte Croix to arrive later at the stunning Moustiers Ste. Marie, nestled high on the edge of a ravine along a rushing mountain stream with small waterfalls down and medieval houses above; Moustiers Ste. Marie is one of the most “picturesque Provençal” villages.

DAY 9: Moustiers Ste. Marie day of or
exploratory hiking / walking day or 60 k loop ride.

DAY 10: Moustiers Ste. Marie to Castellane. / 45 k. 785 m gain.
Castellane (pop 1,591/ altitude 724 m), is known as the “gateway” of the Gorges du Verdon because of its location at the crossroads of the Route Napoleon and the Upper Verdon Road; unlike most villages in Provence, this is not a “perched” village, its origins date back to the 16th century and one of the main sights is its chapel of Notre-Dame-du Roc built 180 m high above the town. There is a wide variety of cafes, restaurants and shops. 85 k ride option as well.

DAY 11: Castellane to Nice. (Saint Laurent du Var) / 86 k. 685 m gain.
Nice (pop 347, 105 / altitude 10 m), Capital of the French Riviera. Great ride awaits for us today, considering we finish at sea level… all of our climbing will be rewarded with an amazing long downhill to Nice… not only that, the scenery is wonderful. After 9 days of cycling, nothing feels better than to finish with a swim in the Mediterranean. We will pack up bikes, share our stories at dinner time and feel the ocean’s breeze while we stroll by the beach afterwards.

DAY 12
:. ------. Travel Day.
Tour finishes after breakfast. We will help you out with logistics to board a train, bus or plane or you may want to keep cycling with us in Corsica after this trip! Or stay in Nice and explore it at your own pace. Shuttle available to Nice airport subject to a schedule.
