Tour de Corse à vélo.

14 days / 13 nights accommodation / 12 riding days

One of the best kept secrets as cycling destination, Corsica “l'île de beauté” offers breathtaking landscapes, translucent waters, soft sandy beaches and forested valleys, no other Mediterranean island is as green as Corsica. This tour will take you all around the island where you will discover a unique culture maintained for centuries by its courageous people. Corsica is a pleasure to the senses and it has spectacular miles for you to ride, come and discover why the Greeks called it “Kalliste” the most beautiful….

Our trip starts and finishes in the city of Ajaccio, largest city in Corsica, it is also Napoleon Bonaparte’s birth place, it is a very interesting city with plenty of things to do and see, great cafes & restaurants, museums, beautiful beaches nearby; a good place to arrive one or two days early. You can get there by:
Air: Frequent flights depart to / from mainland France to Napoleon Bonaparte Airport (AJA). Flights to Ajaccio usually depart from Orly (ORY) airport so if you flying into Paris (CDG) make sure you have plenty of time to make your connection. Ajaccio Airport (AJA) is located 5 kilometers to its downtown.
Flying into Nice (NCE) or Marseille (MRS) and ferry over to Ajaccio is another option.
Ferry: Departures to Ajaccio are available from Toulon, Marseille & Nice.
Train: If you choose to fly into either Paris CDG or ORY airport, you may take a train either to Toulon, Marseille or Nice and then ferry or fly to Ajaccio.
Note: If you plan to bring your own bicycle, we will do our best to arrange pick up and drop off depending on your schedule; please contact us for details.

Known as “The Mountain in the Sea” Corsica offers wonderful hills to climb most days, some quite long, between 3% and 9% incline so a good level of fitness is required to enjoy the whole route. The majority of the riding will be on quiet, paved roads but there may be some sections with some traffic being the only option to get from A to B. Note: High tourist season is usually over in September so there should be less traffic in those sections.
We average about 70 km per day, four optional rest days are included although there will be day rides available in those days too. You will have the choice of shorter or longer rides depending on the day’s route. See itinerary & overview map.
All participants are expected to cycle the full distances, though if your knees are sore or if your legs need a day of rest arrangements can be made for a shuttle.
A support vehicle will carry luggage from hotel to hotel but will not trail behind cyclists. We will stop as we go by every rider to make sure all is going well; if none of us is riding with you on a given day and need assistance or need to be picked up we will be reachable by cell phone at all times.
We carry a set of tools and a floor pump. Helmets are mandatory. To wear a safety vest or a bright shirt while riding your bike is always a good idea.
Given the distances, it is best to bring (or rent) a road bike although if you are not used to it, a light hybrid bike would be fine too. Your bike should have the capacity to carry a minimum of 2 water bottles.
Bike rentals are available in Ajaccio, we will provide you details if you wish.

We will rest in 3 and 4 stars hotels that are comfortable, clean and well situated. Hotel rooms are booked on a double occupancy basis; if traveling solo, we will try to find you a same sex roommate, if this is not possible; because hotel pricing we will collect 50% of the single supplement fee ( $397.5 CAD) on the final payment; if a roommate is found, we will refund you the supplement fee. Persons wishing a room to themselves may do so at their own expense adding $795 CAD to the total cost = $3720 CAD.
Hotel nights from ---- through --- (13 nights) are covered in the package.

13 breakfasts and 4 dinners are included in the package. Cyclists are on their own for other meals. In some Corsican towns, restaurants open late for dinner, by late afternoon, if hotel owners allow us, we will enjoy snacks & beverages in a common area to tie us over until restaurants open in the evenings.

Corsica enjoys the mild Mediterranean climate but varies with altitude. October daytime average-highs reach between 22C-20C and lows 12C-10C. The region typically receives about 88mm of rain, though normal weather patterns are no longer as predictable as they once were.
